BEARS AND COUGARS TO CLOSE FOR COMFORT
A few cases of mother nature getting a little to close to people. Grays Harbor Dispatch has received several reports of a male black bear wandering through the clear cut area near the DOT center in Central Park. Several drivers are pulling over to photograph the animal which creates a traffic issue on the narrow shoulder. Bears not the only issue: a pair of fish passage surveyors were reportedly pursued by a cougar over the weekend. The two were working near the Little Hoquiam River south of SR109 when they spotted the cat following them. The animal reportedly hissed at the two and got close enough for the workers to strike it with the surveying stadia rod. The two slowly made their way to their truck, making noise, never turning their back on the cat and staying together. However, the cougar followed the entire way, not pulling back until the surveyors reached their truck and called animal enforcement.
