COMMUNITY AWAITS WORD FROM GH PAPER AS LAYOFF NOTICES ISSUED

May 26, 2011

Still no official word from Grays Harbor Paper on the status of the mill or efforts to keep it up and running, but Wednesday saw the smoke cease to pour out of the Hoquiam stack just after 10AM and word began to hit the streets and social networks that employees were receiving layoff notices early on Wednesday afternoon.  Grays Harbor Paper officials have been working to keep the facility running in spite of the rising cost of pulp and have said they wish to notify all their employees before making an official statement.  The mill employs over 200 people and provides a significant source of income in several areas including business taxes to the City of Hoquiam and water fees for the City of Aberdeen.
