ABERDEEN ASH FIRE
Assistant Chief Rich Malizia tells KXRO the Aberdeen and Hoquiam Fire Departments on Monday morning responded to a “house on fire” on Riverview Dr. in Aberdeen. Harbor Dispatch told AFD that “all occupants are out” and “flames are visible”. The resident and her three children were at home when they noticed flames at the back of the house.
Preliminary investigation suggests that the fire started on the back deck of the home, extending up the exterior wall and into the attic. One of the adult occupants noted that he had placed used barbeque briquettes in a bag on the deck a little more than a day earlier. The area he described would be consistent with where the heaviest charring occurred; however, investigation of the cause and origin is not conclusive.
Malizia reminds residents to ensure that ashes of any fire are fully cooled and extinguished before they are discarded. Put them in a fireproof container.
Estimated loss is over 53 thousand dollars.
