Grays Harbor Relay events raise over $420 thousand

June 4, 2012

A little rain couldn’t dampen the spirits at Grays Harbor Relay For Life events over the weekend. Both the Relay for Life of Grays Harbor and East Grays Harbor Relay for Life brought in just under their total goals, but residents raised over $420 thousand for the American Cancer Society.

The 26th annual Relay For Life of Grays Harbor had 78 teams participate and raised over $352 thousand. Jane Madsten says around 1000 participants came out to support the event.

St. Andrews Church Team A was the top team in Hoquiam. Combined with their Team B, they raised over $65 thousand for the event. Bob Muhlhauser and Team Bob were the 2nd highest fundraisers with almost $37 thousand and Mulhauser the top individual fundraiser bringing in over $20 thousand.

Virginia Grandorff from the Relay for Life of East Grays Harbor
tells KXRO that they saw 27 teams this year, marking the highest participation in their 8 year history. They were able to raise $70 thousand for their event.

Events have until August 31 to continue raising money to meet their goal for this year.

Donations can be made through August to either event through the American Cancer Society website:
