Crewman medivaced off of Westport coast

June 18, 2012

A Coast Guard spokesman says the agency flew an ailing commercial vessel crewman from a container ship 120 miles west of Westport to a Portland hospital over the weekend.

Petty Officer Nate Littlejohn says the crewman aboard the 820-foot Mahi Mahi had reported chest pains Friday.

Once the crewman was helped into a helicopter rescue basket and hoisted aboard the Coast Guard aircraft, personnel administered an IV.

The spokesman says the helicopter crew flew the man to Oregon Health and Science University in Portland, where he was reported in stable condition.
