City of Hoquiam willing to consider a revised Wild Olympics plan
The Wild Olympics debate continued at the Hoquiam City Council meeting Monday night, and the council passed a resolution that was different from other cities.
Both sides spoke on the issue and the resolution was passed with only one no vote. While the council expressed its opposition to some points of the Wild Olympics proposal it also noted that the proposal is still a work in progress and the City wishes to remain actively involved in the process.
Councilman Darrin Moir says that he was prepared to oppose the proposal completely, but with this process he was ready to support the resolution.
The resolution supports efforts to preserve rivers and park areas for public use and for wildlife habitat but opposes any expansion of the Olympic National Park now or in the future.
