Man dies in Pacific County while rafting

July 8, 2012

2 men were rafting near Cape Disappointment State Park near Ilwaco over the weekend when Pacific County Communications received a call that they were in distress.

The 2 men, 55 year old John Beaumeir of Woodinville and 28 year old Israel Anderson of Seattle, were rafting on Saturday when rough waters capsized their raft several times.

The raft began to deflate and Anderson was able to hold onto the raft and get himself back to shore while Beaumeir was separated from him in the surf.

The Pacific County Surf Rescue Team was dispatched along with the Coast Guard. One of the volunteer members spotted Beaumeir unconscious in the water and were able to get him to shore and start CPR. Beaumeir was transported to Ocean Beach Hospital in Ilwaco where he was pronounced dead.

Neither man was wearing a personal floatation device. Both men worked as nurses at Harborview Hospital in Seattle.
