Simpson Triangle Art approved
The Aberdeen City Council on Wednesday approved the Weatherwax art project submitted by Portland artist Adam Kuby and authorized the artist’s contract.
Both the Aberdeen Arts Commission and the Grays Harbor Community Foundation unanimously recommended “Resurgence” by Adam Kuby. Cath Brunner of 4 Culture says that the scope of the project was to “honor the Weatherwax family and to inspire both generosity and commitment to community.”
Kuby’s proposal was a project he calls “Resurgence.” The artwork will incorporate all of the sandstones recovered from the Weatherwax High school building into the form of a large, cresting ocean wave. Four of the scroll-shaped sandstone blocks serve as the crest of the 64-foot long wave.
The project is fully funded by the Grays Harbor Community Foundation. Construction could begin as early as this summer.
