Harbor Paper sale continuing

July 13, 2012

A judge has ruled that the sale of the former Grays Harbor Paper mill can continue to Elliott Rust Holdings, LLC of Tacoma who announced their plans to purchase the vacant facility in April. The purchasing process was scheduled to last approximately 60 days.

US Bank, who holds the receivership of the facility, asked the court to decide if the sale could continue or if the assets could be liquidated.

Rayonier did have an objection centered around a large pile of ash but once Harbor Paper agreed to remove the pile within 100 days of closing the sale Rayonier rescinded their objection.

Judge Godfrey set an additional court date for August 10th to return to the issue.

The new company, renamed Harbor Paper, is scheduled be led by former CEO and industry veteran John Begley who says this another step to bringing jobs back to the harbor.

The Grays Harbor PUD issued a statement following the decision saying they are pleased with the decision and that “This is a complex sale and there is still work to be done, but we remain hopeful progress can be made in a timely manner to close the sale and get the mill up and running, providing jobs to our community.”
