Grays Harbor unemployment down, yet still highest in state
Grays Harbor saw a decrease in the unemployment rate between May and June, but still holds the highest rate statewide.
In May, Grays Harbor had the highest unemployment statewide with 13.7%. In June, the rate dropped to 13%. This is the same rate held in April of this year.
Pacific County dropped unemployment from 11.8% to 11% for June.
Southwest Washington shows the highest unemployment numbers for a region with Wahkiakum, Cowlitz, and Lewis Counties all showing numbers 11% and above.
Statewide unemployment remained unchained in June at 8.3 percent.
An estimated 293,000 people were unemployed and looking for work in Washington last month and nearly 145,000 claimed unemployment benefits.
More than 4,500 unemployed workers ran out of benefits last month. Since extended benefits were activated in 2008, more than 101,000 people have exhausted their benefits.
