Pontoons scheduled to float tonight
July 30, 2012
6 pontoons are scheduled to launch tonight from Aberdeen. These pontoons are the first to be built in Aberdeen for the SR 520 Floating Bridge and will float into Grays Harbor starting at 7pm.
Washington State Department of Transportation Secretary Paula Hammond was in Aberdeen last week to see the progress as construction crews were putting the finishing touches on the cement structures. Project Director Phil Wallace said that crews will fill the casting basin with water and tow pontoons into Grays Harbor on the high tides.
Once the first pontoons are launched, construction will begin on the next five cycles with 27 more pontoons planned for construction in Aberdeen between now and 2014.
