First pontoon moves through the Ballard Locks on Saturday
August 13, 2012
18 months of preparation, and the first SR 520 pontoon went through the Ballard Locks on Saturday night as expected. The Washington State Department of Transportation said that it took 45 minutes to get the massive pontoon through the locks.
5 more pontoons are scheduled to go through the locks on their way to Lake Washington from the first cycle. Crews have already begun preparations on the next 5 cycles of construction locally. 27 more pontoons are scheduled to be built and towed out of Grays Harbor between now and 2014.
The 2nd pontoon is scheduled to arrive tonight and can be tracked online at MarineTraffic.com by searching for the tug boat “Ocean Ranger.”
