City of Aberdeen one step closer to creating transportation district

August 23, 2012

The Aberdeen City Council Wednesday night passed the second reading of an ordinance that would create a transportation benefit district.

The council passed the second reading but not without plenty of discussion about what the creation of the district could bring about.

Councilman Frank Gordon said he was originally going to vote no on the second reading but after Public Works Director Larry Bledsoe gave some details including that if a tax was voted through by the people there would be a five year sunset period on it.

The second reading passed with a vote of nine yes and one no. The only no vote came from Councilman James Cook. Councilwomen Margo Short and Alice Phelps were not at the meeting.
