Fully involved fire at Mary’s River Lumber
The Montesano Fire Department is currently battling a fire on Highway 107 just south of Montesano at Mary’s River Lumber.
Officials say the fire is fully involved. The fire is believed to have started at the back of the mill. According to KXRO reporters on scene, the top of the mill is gone and rafters are visible.
A supervisor on scene said that the question now will be if the mill will be allowed to rebuild because of environmental concerns. The owners are coming from Oregon in the morning to assess the damage.
Approximately 130 people work at the mill, but only security was on duty at the time the fire started.
An explosion could be heard by residents.
Multiple agencies from throughout Grays Harbor are on scene.
The Department of Transportation is on scene and they are expecting an extended closure of Highway 107.
