Hoquiam Opposed to Grays Harbor County Levy Shift

September 11, 2012

The Hoquiam City Council passed a resolution stating their displeasure with the proposed levy shift of the County. Hoquiam Finance Director Mike Folkers says the shift would take more money from city residents with no added services.

Folkers also said that last year Hoquiam residents paid the county an extra $54,000 and did not see any additional services.

Hoquiam City Assessor Brian Shay also added that this isn’t the only increase that the County is looking at. Shay said the county lists the jail operations as one of the reasons for the levy shift and are also asking for more money for the jail on top of that.

The Hoquiam Council passed the resolution in opposition of the levy shift unanimously.
