Unemployment locally follows state average, up slightly

Unemployment numbers rose statewide in August. The unemployment in Grays Harbor increased slightly to 12.8%. In July, unemployment was 12.4%, with the county showing the 2nd highest number in the state. In August, Grays Harbor is tied for 2nd highest with Lewis County. Ferry County in eastern Washington remained highest statewide increasing their number to 13.3%.

Pacific County also rose from 10.2% in July to 11% in August.

Statewide, unemployment rose slightly to 8.6 percent, coinciding with county by county numbers.

Harbor Paper started their operations this month, and those figures will impact the September unemployment figure.
