Auto theft suspect jumps from moving car, leaves passenger inside

October 1, 2012

Aberdeen Officer Lougheed was on patrol in the area of Simpson and Scammel on Sunday when a white Honda Accord failed to signal a lane change. Officer Lougheed went to perform a traffic stop when she recalled that a white Accord had been reported stolen on Saturday.

Officer Lougheed activated her lights to stop the Honda. The driver sped off through stop signs into the area of the 400 Block of Simpson, which is a dead end street. The driver slowed down before jumping out of the car and fleeing on foot. The Accord continued to roll forward and struck a parked car before coming to a stop against a fence.

As the driver fled, Officer Lougheed saw that a passenger was still in the car. Officers checked the area without locating the suspect. The passenger was not hurt.

The investigation is continuing.
