Drunk man runs in front of school bus, gets hit
Aberdeen Officers were called on Tuesday after an Aberdeen School District bus hit a pedestrian.
Officers arrived to find the school bus sitting mid-block on Wishkah St, facing Westbound and a man was lying on the road in front of the bus. The man was alert and told officers that he was OK. He was checked out by Aberdeen Fire Department Paramedics at the scene before being transported to Grays Harbor Community Hospital as a precaution.
The school bus was carrying by the Aberdeen High School Volleyball team and their coaches. None on board reported any injuries.
Witnesses told officers that they saw the man walking across Wishkah from the Olympic Gateway Plaza when the man tried to run in front of the bus to the other side of the street.
The Washington State Patrol was called to the scene to inspect the bus, as required by law, and no problems were reported with the vehicle.
The man, a 54 year old Aberdeen transient, appeared to be intoxicated. He told the officers that it was not the bus drivers fault and that he did not see the bus coming. The investigating officers issued the man an infraction for failing to yield to traffic at other than a crosswalk.
