Tree Saves Possibly Three Lives In Car Accident

October 19, 2012

Aberdeen Officers responded to the area of the 600 Block of 7th Avenue responding to a roll over accident yesterday afternoon.

When the officers arrived they found a 2000 Honda Civic off the road and on the passenger side, resting against a tree. The car was being driven by a 17 year old Aberdeen male and there were two teenage passengers in the car as well.

The driver was heading down hill on 7th Ave which has a severe downhill 180 degree turn in it. The posted recommended speed at the corner is 5 mph. At the corner the Honda was moving at an excessive speed. The driver lost control of the car and it slid into the curb and then flipped onto the passenger side, coming to rest against a large tree on the hillside next to the road.

If the car did not hit the tree, the car could have continued to roll down the hill. Investigating officers believed that if that had occurred that they would have investigated a collision that resulted in serious injury or death. No injuries were reported at the scene.

The driver was arrested for reckless driving and transported to the Aberdeen Police Department where he was processed and released.

Neither alcohol or drugs appear to have contributed to this incident.

The investigation is continuing.
