Aberdeen may have found their new Public Works Director

November 15, 2012

The City of Aberdeen has their eyes set on a new Public Works Director. Current Director Larry Bledsoe announced his retirement months ago, and officials looked all across the country for someone to fill his shoes.

After meeting with the final 5 applicants last week, the city has sent a written offer to Nick Mascia, currently serving as Assistant Public Works Director for Surprise, AZ. Mascia has history as an engineer, which was a deciding factor in the final applicants. Finance Director Kathryn Skolrood says the city combined the positions of City Engineer and Public Works Director to save the city.

According to an online bio of Mascia, he grew up in Detroit and graduated from Michigan State University in 2000 with a Bachelor and Master of Science degree in civil engineering. He and his wife, along with their 4 children, currently live in the City of Surprise. Surprise is a suburb of Phoenix with a population of approximately 110,000 residents.

Bledsoe’s retirement is scheduled for the end of this year.
