Night of 1000 Stars Dedicated to Hoquiam Officer Donald Burke

December 12, 2012

Throughout Grays Harbor, and across this state, this Friday is the start of the 22nd year “Night of 1,000 Stars”. This year, it will serve a dual purpose.

One is to remember all those who have worn a badge and fallen in the line of duty. This year, locally the emphasis is dedicated to the memory of fallen Hoquiam Officer Donald Burke. Burke was killed in the line of duty in 1980. Grays Harbor Sheriff Rick Scott says it is a time to remember all of those who have fallen.

The second purpose of the emphasis is to have a visual presence from agencies all over the State to make sure the roads stay safe.

Extra patrols will consist of 1,000 law enforcement officers throughout Washington and they will be looking for impaired drivers, seatbelt violations and aggressive drivers.

The goal is for all those travelling, whether it is across the country or across town, to arrive safely.

The event is organized by the Target Zero Traffic Safety Task Force and supported by numerous law enforcement agencies.
