FOSLS Look for Grants to Support Parks
The Friends of Schafer and Lake Sylvia announced that they expect to finalize grants from Grays Harbor and Mason Counties by Friday of this week. The grants are from county lodging tax funds and will pay for highway historical marker signs for Schafer State Park and for advertising to promote Lake Sylvia State Park. The group hopes that $2,400 grant from Mason County and the $2,500 grant from Grays Harbor County will increase visitation, which could impact the local economy.
All state parks pay local government lodging taxes. Schafer State Park paid almost $2,000 to Mason County and Lake Sylvia State Park paid $3,700 to Grays Harbor County in a two year period. The friends asked to see some of that money return to the parks.
