Grays Harbor Community Foundation Announce 1st Quarter Grants

January 29, 2013

The Grays Harbor Community Foundation has awarded $42,550 to seven organizations in their first quarter grants cycle.

The Satsop School Playground is just one of the seven grants awarded in this first quarter of 2013.

“With a shoe-string-tight budget, fluctuating enrollment and a depressed local economy, our savings account and public donations of time and money still have not been enough to replace our twenty-five year old structure.” said Jason Olsen, Member of the Satsop School Board. With the grant from the Grays Harbor Community Foundation, the rural school is now able to build a new ADA approved playground.

Another award was given to Satsop is named InvestED, which provides eligible districts with money to fill gaps in student needs such as clothes for PE Class, shoes for athletics, and backpacks for school supplies. All Schools serving 6-8 Grade Students in Grays Harbor are eligible for the InvestED grant.

Others receiving grants in this cycle include Kron for the “Knights of Veritas” Program at Timberland Regional Libraries, Regional Education and Training Center for Try-A-Trade Day, Montesano Parent Teacher Organization for Playground Equipment for Simpson Elementary School, and Poco Voce Children’s Choir Association for Scholarships, Sheet Music and other Expenses.
