Military Ordinance Found in Aberdeen Home

January 29, 2013

On Monday evening, Aberdeen Police officers were assisting Cosmopolis Police at a home in Aberdeen for an arrest of a suspect for vehicle theft as well as outstanding warrants.

While doing a sweep of the residence, three pieces of military ordinance were located, including an 81mm mortar round, 3″ artillery warhead, and a 35mm round with its casing attached.

Officers secured the residence and Explosive Ordnance Disposal at Joint Base Lewis McChord were called.

EOD responded and took custody of the items for disposal.

Aberdeen Police Captain John Green says that one of the three rounds was believed be live munition.
