February 7, 2013
The Washington State Department of Health have continued to track the whooping cough epidemic in Washington, and have already recorded 33 cases in 2013.
These numbers, although they may be higher than a normal year, are far less than we saw at the beginning of the epidemic. In this same period last year, 119 cases had been reported.
11 counties have already seen pertussis activity. Grays Harbor has already shown 1 reported case in 2013. By comparison, Yakima has already seen 8 cases reported.
In 2012, Grays Harbor saw 24 pertussis cases and Pacific County reported 7 cases.
