Aberdeen JCPenney Store Closing in August

March 14, 2013

JCPenney will be closing their Aberdeen store on August 3rd.

Multiple employees at JCPenney in the SouthShore Mall say that their District Manager told them that the store it is set to close at a Thursday morning meeting.

Aberdeen is one of six stores nationwide slated to close in August 2013.

JCPenney Media Relations Manager Joey Thomas told KXRO that ” Eachyear, we evaluate our store portfolio to determine whether there’s a need to close or relocate underperforming stores. Reviews such as these are essential in meeting our long-term goals for future company growth. While it’s never an easy decision to close a store, especially due to the impact on our valued team members and customers, we would not have moved forward with this difficult decision if we did not believe it was absolutely necessary.”

SouthShore Mall Manager Jamie Walsh said that she had not heard about the closure until employees reported it, but said that the store has an intact lease with the mall until 2015.
