CITY OF ABERDEEN OPPOSES TAX SIMPLIFICATION ACT

February 9, 2012

Following the example of the city of Westport, the Aberdeen City Council on Wednesday passed a resolution opposing the state Tax Simplification Act which would transfer administration of local B&O licenses and taxes onto the state.

The City of Westport has already voiced their disapproval, and now Aberdeen has made it official as well.

39 cities within the state of Washington impose a Business & Occupation Tax as a way to gain revenue. If the Tax & License Simplification Act is passed, it would prohibit local governments of issuing or renewing most city business licenses and transfer all enforcement decisions onto the state Department of Revenue.
