MISS GH OUTSTANDING TEEN 2012 CROWNED

A new Miss Grays Harbor’s Outstanding Teen was crowned last night at the 7th St. Theatre in Hoquiam. 14 year old Aberdeen High School freshman Elizabeth Henderson won the $300 cash prize and the $600 entry to compete in the Miss Washington’s Outstanding Teen pageant May 25-28th.

The Miss Grays Harbor Pageant caps off Pageant Weekend in Hoquiam tonight at 7pm at the historic 7th Street Theatre.

The pageant begins at 7pm  this evening . Tickets are $15 and available at Harbor Drug in Hoquiam,  Rosevear’s Music in Aberdeen and the Bank of The Pacific in Ocean Shores.

UPDATE: HIGH WIND ‘WARNING’ ISSUED

The National Weather Service has upgraded the "High Wind Watch" to a "High Wind Warning" for the coast tonight through Saturday afternoon. Winds are expected at 30 to 40 MPH with gusts possible of up to 60 MPH. With winds of this strength, there is a possible of fallen tree limbs and power outages.

* IMPACTS...TREES AND BRANCHES MAY FALL CAUSING POWER OUTAGES.
  WEST WINDS THIS STRONG ARE SOMEWHAT UNUSUAL AND MAY CAUSE DAMAGE
  IN AREAS NOT NORMALLY SEEN.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

A HIGH WIND WARNING MEANS THAT A HAZARDOUS WIND EVENT IS IMMINENT

MISS GH ‘OUTSTANDING TEEN’ TONIGHT

This Miss Grays Harbor’s Outstanding Teen Pageant begins a weekend of high profile pageants in Grays Harbor. Tonight, 11 girls will compete for the title of Miss Grays Harbor’s Outstanding Teen plus about $1,000 dollars in prizes and an opportunity to compete in the Miss Washington’s Outstanding Teen pageant May 25-28th. The pageant begins at 7pm  this evening at the 7th St. Theatre in Hoquiam . Tickets are $15 and available at Harbor Drug in Hoquiam,  Rosevear’s Music in Aberdeen and the Bank of The Pacific in Ocean Shores.

Competing this evening are: Blythe Beebe, McKenzie Brooks, Sarah Dier, Lizzie Henderson, Sydney Fenn, Lisa Brown, Kylie Shepard, Jenna Prater, Ceeja Barr, Amber Brand and Erin Kuhn.

The Miss Grays Harbor Pageant is Saturday at 7pm also at the historic 7th Street Theatre in Hoquiam.

ABERDEEN COMMUNITY MEETING TONIGHT

The City of Aberdeen invites all residents to their ongoing series of community meetings. Tonight starting at 7pm inside the gymnasium at McDermoth Elementary School is the next chance for residents to tell City Officials what matters most to you.

McDermoth Elementary is located at 409 North K St one street from Broadway in Aberdeen.

Officials say that despite the fact the community meetings are being held in wards across the city, any residents are welcome to any meeting.

Meetings will be held at 7 pm at the following locations and dates.

HOQUIAM TEACHER HEARING SCHEDULED TODAY

The third hearing for Hoquiam teacher Wesley A. Phillips is scheduled for today at 1pm in Grays Harbor District Court #1. Phillips was released on bail from Grays Harbor County Jail on January 27th after his second hearing in District Court.

41 year old Phillips is charged with Communicating with a Minor for Immoral Purposes and Voyeurism. Both charges are Class C Felonies and each count carries a maximum sentence of 5 years.

In documents filed with the Grays Harbor Prosecutor’s Office, Phillips is said to have sent multiple messages to a 12 year old Hoquiam Middle School student, whom he knew was a minor, for immoral purposes. It is also stated that the defendant on multiple accounts viewed another minor for sexual purposes. These are alleged to have occurred since September of 2011.

Hoquiam Police Chief Jeff Myers told KXRO that 2 computers seized in a warrant, one of which was property of the school district were sent to the Washington State Patrol High Tech Crime Unit in Olympia to be searched.

FORMER SEAHAWK NAMED ABERDEEN FOOTBALL COACH

Aberdeen High School has named Terry Dion as new High School Football Coach. He will take the reigns from Ron Clark who resigned in December.

Dion’s official appointment is scheduled for tonight’s Aberdeen School Board meeting.

Originally from Shelton, 54 year-old Dion was drafted in the 1980 NFL Draft to the Seattle Seahawks in the 4th round. He played less than 1 season for Seattle. He previously coached with the Pierce County Bengals and Shelton High School.

Dion will also serve as Assistant Coach to the Aberdeen Track team.
