Montesano on to Tacoma Dome
The Montesano Bulldogs’ story book season continues. After losing two game early this season and losing their stadium to a fire, they have since gone undefeated.
Their latest victory was their most note worthy. The unranked Bulldogs took down the number one ranked King’s Knights 17-7 Saturday night at Stewart Field in Aberdeen.
The defense was masterful as the Bulldogs held King’s and their vaunted offense ran by BYU commit Quarterback Billy Green to zero points until the 4th quarter. Constantly kept off balance by multiple personnel packages, blitzes, and coverages.
The Bulldogs opened the scoring on a Matthew Jensen TD Run that was set up by a long Jensen to Ben Ohashi Passing play. Both Defenses stiffened after that including the Bulldogs shutting down the Knights in the redzone at the end of the first half.
Montesano would score again to start the 4th quarter with an Anthony Louthan field goal to give them the 10 – 0 lead. The Knights struck back quickly.
Green finally connected on a 60 yard pass and then ran the ball in for the touchdown on a scoring drive that lasted only 20 seconds. The Bulldogs answered with big plays of their own as Jensen hit Richard Smith down the sideline and then Tucker Ibabo broke free for the long touchdown run.
The defenses would take over yet again from there as Richard Smith put an end the to the Knights’ hopes for good with an interception on the last drive. Time ran out and the Montesano Bulldogs are moving on to the Semi-Finals and to the Tacoma Dome for a game to be played most likely on Saturday and will be aired on 1490 KWOK and at KXRO.com.
