One suspect in custody, another still at large following Elma bank robbery

November 29, 2012

Detectives have made an arrest in connection with the Anchor Bank Robbery in Elma.

Investigators contacted authorities at the Mason County Jail with the photograph of the suspect from the bank surveillance footage and a correctional officer identified the suspect as Jerry Thomas Upson of Shelton. Upson is 32 years old and has prior Robbery convictions in both Thurston and Mason Counties.

Investigators contacted the friends and family of Upson and learned that the suspect did own a white colored Dodge Stratus, the same vehicle seen in surveillance video at the scene. That vehicle was located and impounded, however Upson is still at large.

Investigators also learned that Upson usually associated with another Shelton man. That individual was located in Shelton and arrested on an unrelated warrant. Investigators learned that the 26 year old was with Upson during the robbery and he was subsequently transported to the Grays Harbor County Jail and booked for first degree robbery.

Upson has a felony warrant for his arrest and should be considered dangerous.

If anyone has information on his whereabouts, they are requested to contact the Grays Harbor County Sheriff’s Department at 360-249-3711.
