Scrap Metal Thief Arrested in Satsop
Grays Harbor Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a home on Moore Road in Satsop on Wednesday around 5:30 pm, regarding a theft in progress. A resident called to report that a man was stealing scrap metal from the property.
The suspect was placing items into the bed of a green pickup. The resident confronted the suspect who fled the scene. Officers from Elma Police and the Washington State Department of Fish and Wildlife also responded.
A deputy spotted the pickup at a home in Satsop with numerous individuals surrounding it. The subjects fled toward a residence when officers arrived, however the deputy was able to apprehend one of the subjects. After additional officers arrived, the remaining subjects were located.
Officers learned that one of the men was the suspect that stole the metal from Moore Road. The 18 year old Elma man was arrested, and he was found to be in possession of illegal narcotics.
The suspect was transported to the Grays Harbor County Jail and booked for Theft, Criminal Trespass, and Violation of the Uniform Controlled Substance Act.
The other subjects contacted were released pending further investigation. The pickup belonged to a family member of the suspect. The stolen metal was returned to the owner and the pickup returned to the family member.
