Family Dispute Turns to Assault with a Handgun

January 7, 2013

Sunday morning, Hoquiam Officers were called to a home in the 2000 block of Broadway Avenue for a report of domestic assault involving a firearm.

Officers arrived and spoke to the victim, a 29 year old Hoquiam man, who had blood on his head, face and hands. The man said he had been in an argument with his stepfather about his 29-year old girlfriend and 2-year old son.

The argument allegedly escalated and turned physical. At some point the stepfather retrieved a handgun and the 53-year old Hoquiam man struck his stepson several times with the gun. The stepson told KXRO that this behavior is out of the ordinary and that the man was not angry by nature.

Officers located the stepfather in the master bedroom and he was arrested without incident. The pistol was recovered in the residence and secured as evidence.

Hoquiam Fire Department Paramedics treated all three of the subjects involved at the scene for minor injuries. All parties refused transport to the hospital.

The 53 year old male was booked into the county jail for Domestic Violence Assault 2nd Degree.
