Grays Harbor Tall Ships Return in July

The Grays Harbor Historical Seaport announced that The Lady Washington and the Hawaiian Chieftain will return to their home port in Aberdeen in July. This includes being in Grays Harbor for the 4th of July.

The ships will return to Western Washington ports for their summer schedule including a week in the San Juan Islands and participation in the 37th annual Port Townsend Wooden Boat Festival.

Throughout the summer, they will be observing the 225th anniversary of the first landfall by a U.S.-flagged vessel on the shores of the Pacific Northwest.

On August 14, 1788, the original Lady Washington sailed from Boston around Cape Horn to what would later be known as Vancouver Island and made its first landing at what is now called Tillamook Bay. The stop was part of an expedition led by Captain Robert Gray, who would later discover the mouth of the Columbia River and give his name to Grays Harbor.

Lady Washington and Hawaiian Chieftain will be in Aberdeen from July 2-7 before continuing their tour through the northwest and returning September 18th.
