Hoquiam Officer Shot. Suspect Barricaded in Home.

March 27, 2013

Police from agencies throughout Grays Harbor have surrounded a home in Hoquiam following an officer involved shooting.

Chief Criminal Deputy Steve Shumate told KXRO that Hoquiam Officers learned of a 53 year old woman and 49 year old man who came into town from Sacramento with active warrants. Officers came to the home where the couple was believed to be on Tuesday and arrested the woman, but the man was not arrested. It is believed that he gave a fake ID when approached.

Officers returned Wednesday morning to arrest the 49 year old man who they believed gave a fake ID. When officers approached, the suspect produced a firearm and shot at the officers. Hoquiam Police returned fire. It is not known if the suspect was injured.

A Hoquiam Officer was shot in the side and is being treated for non life threatening injuries.

Officers have surrounded the suspect in the shooting who has barricaded himself inside of a home.

Traffic has been blocked in the area of the 2800 block of Aberdeen Avenue while police negotiate with the suspect.
