South Shore Mall Considers Indoor Skate Park

March 27, 2013

The South Shore Mall is actively pursuing tenants for the JC Penney location set to be empty in August.

According to a representative from the mall, they are looking at the possibility of turning the location to an indoor skate park and store.

The mall recently asked skater Tony Hawk and corporate store Zumiez about converting the site saying that after talking to a local skater there are 5000 skaters locally and the 78,000 square foot space could become a skate park and store combination.

JC Penney announced the closure of their Aberdeen store earlier this month as one of six stores nationwide slated to close in August.

JC Penney Media Relations Manager Joey Thomas told KXRO that ”While it’s never an easy decision to close a store, especially due to the impact on our valued team members and customers, we would not have moved forward with this difficult decision if we did not believe it was absolutely necessary.”
