Body of Infant Found in Vacant Ocean Shores Lot
Police agencies from throughout Grays Harbor are on scene in Ocean Shores this morning after a baby was found in a vacant lot.
Hoquiam Police Chief Jeff Myers said that around 6pm on Friday, a woman walking her dog in the 200 block of Fisher Ave NE, south of the Ocean Shores Municipal Airport, when she noticed a rag hanging from a tree. When she went over to look at the vacant lot, she saw what appeared to be the body of an infant on the ground.
Ocean Shores Paramedics were called to the scene and found the baby was deceased, and the birth appeared to be recent.
The Grays Harbor Coroner took custody of the body to perform an autopsy and determine cause of death. The child appeared to have suffered trauma.
It is being investigated as a homicide.
Officials from the Ocean Shores, Hoquiam and Aberdeen Police Departments are on scene, along with Grays Harbor Sheriff’s Department. The area has been blocked off as they investigate. Due to high winds and rain overnight, officials expect to be at the scene all day.
The child appears to have been born outside of a hospital, and the mother of the child likely needs medical attention.
