Simpson Avenue Bridge Closure

April 30, 2013

The Simpson Avenue Bridge will close three days next week for routine inspection.
From 9 am to 3 pm on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, May 6-8, the Washington State Department of Transportation will close both lanes of the Simpson Avenue Bridge while crews perform a routine scheduled bridge inspection.

During the closures, WSDOT crews will detour the 13,000 vehicles that use the bridge each day onto Riverside, reconfigured for two-way traffic.

Crews perform various inspections on the 86 year old bridge each year. This inspection, performed every two years, involves reviewing the infrastructure of the bridge. Crews will access areas under the bridge using an “Under-Bridge Inspection Truck” with a specialized arm that reaches around the bridge railing and under the deck.

Motorists are encouraged to allow extra time for their commutes during the daytime bridge closures. WSDOT recommends leaving early, carpooling or taking transit.
