Hoquiam terminates ambulance services to rural areas

July 9, 2013

The City of Hoquiam has sent letters of termination of ambulance services to three outlying fire districts. Districts #8, #16 and #17 were all behind on payments for the services and have not made their agreed payment to the city.

District #8 has an outstanding balance of over $15,000 and both #16 and #17 have outstanding balances of over $16,000. Hoquiam Finance Director Mike Folkers says the districts have been behind for 3 to 4 years and that the City tried to give them the opportunity to get caught up.

Folkers says the city will still respond to trauma calls but will no longer transporting those districts on a regular basis. District #8 covers the Pacific Beach area, District #16 is the Copalis Crossing area and District #17 is the Humptulips area.
