A tour in Pacific County looks at Chinook history

November 1, 2013

Grays Harbor College is giving Pacific County a look into its history this month with a tour called “Chinook History Alive!”

Saturday, Nov. 9 from 1–7 pm, residents can join Chinook Nation Culture Committee Chair & Shoalwater Bay Tribe Education Director Tony Johnson as he will be guiding participants through traditional Chinook Country, Willapa Bay and Columbia River.

Johnson will be sharing his extensive knowledge of Chinookan culture, traditions, and history as well as songs and local legends from the historical Chinook Territory. This includes a traditional salmon dinner.

The tour starts at the GHC Columbia Education Center in Ilwaco, but those involved can join the trip earlier at the main campus in Aberdeen or the Riverview Education Center in Raymond.

Tickets for the tour are $60, and space is limited.
