Foodball has begun
The 32nd annual Foodball starts today in Aberdeen and Hoquiam.
Last year, the schools combined for a total of just under 1 million pounds of food.
In 2011, Hoquiam set a personal record and the schools had a combined total over 1 million pounds of food donated to the Coastal Harvest Food Distribution Warehouse.
Foodball was started in 1981 by former KDUX employee Jill Bellis to stock area food banks for the holiday season.
Hoquiam has won the last 3 years of the friendly competition by numbers, but the real winners are those who rely on Coastal Harvest to help them feed their families locally.
Students will be out in their neighborhoods looking for donations of non-perishable food as well as cash. Each dollar collected is converted to ten pounds of food.
The final weigh-in will be held at the Grays Harbor PUD on November 12th at 5 pm.
