Hoquiam budget hit hard by Harbor Paper loss
The Hoquiam City Council heard a presentation from City of Hoquiam Finance Director Mike Folkers on the mid biennium budget. Folkers said that with Harbor Paper closing, it leaves the city looking to make up $400,000 in their budget.
Folkers also said that the decision to have the paper mill’s contribution in the budget was on his recommendation and he aims to fix it.
The city has saved money on the budget through new medical programs and by leaving a few jobs unfilled. The city is working on budget adjustments that will be brought before the council at their next meeting.
