Online petition looks to fix Highway 12

November 6, 2013

A petition on Change.org looks to get two sections of US Highway 12 near the Grays Harbor County line fixed.

The petition to the Washington Department of Transportation notes a multi vehicle collision on October 29th, which resulted in a teenage driver being airlifted to Harborview Medical Center, as evidence the road needs improvement.

Numerous collisions are cited at the 2nd intersection with US 12, including an incident in 2012 in which a driver was killed crossed the center line.

The petition, submitted by Derek White of Rochester, is signed from “WE, the residents of Rochester, WA” say that they both request and demand that the Washington State Department Of Transportation reduce the speed limit of US 12 in the area to 40 MPH, install new signs or lights, and conduct improvements on the road by widening and adding turn lanes.

Carol Tillman of Elma said in support of the petition, “Enough lives have been lost. It is time to fix this. This community has far outgrown this traffic pattern.”

The petition says that the Washington State Department of Transportation should use any and all means necessary to expedite the requests.

1000 signatures are needed for the petition.

Change.org states that it is the world’s largest petition platform, “empowering people everywhere to create the change they want to see.”
