Vehicle thefts continue as cold weather remains

December 4, 2013

Aberdeen Police are warning drivers not to warm up their cars without being inside.

A string of vehicle thefts have occurred since cold weather has arrived in Aberdeen. With 3 thefts reported on Tuesday, and 1 this morning, that brings 7 vehicle thefts since last week.

This morning, just before 8 am, a 1991 Subaru was stolen from Essex St in East Aberdeen. The vehicle was seen by police in Downtown Aberdeen before crashing and the suspect fleeing on foot.

Officers were able to track that suspect to a home on Market St. The 31 year old Aberdeen man was arrested and taken into the Aberdeen City Jail.

It is not known if this suspect is connected to the other vehicle thefts in the area.

Captain John Green reminds drivers that starting a vehicle and leaving it unattended is illegal, and that these crimes are 100% preventable by staying inside the vehicle as it warms up.
