E-cigs banned in Hoquiam city buildings

December 24, 2013

The City of Hoquiam has banned the use of E-cigs in city buildings but not without debate. At last night’s Council Meeting the ordinance was brought to the floor and before the vote took place Councilman Ben Winkelman brought up his issues with the ordinance.

“I don’t think that we need to be the next one in line that kind of passes a controversial issue that here doesn’t even address the sale to minors. What’s the point of that? I mean, if it were to be dangerous to carry a feather in your hat, should we have an ordinance against that?” said Winkeleman, “I’m not saying its safe, but I don’t not saying it’s safe or not safe. I just don’t know why we would start saying, ‘we don’t like the way it looks’, maybe?”

Councilwoman Jasmine Dickhoff also voiced her opposition, but the Ordinance passed with a vote of seven to three.
