Grays Harbor Raceway has a new promoter
The Grays Harbor County Commissioners announced today that Funtime Promotions will be operating Grays Harbor Raceway in the 2014 season.
Currently operating the Skagit Speedway, Funtime is based out of Burlington.
A motion was made by Commissioner Wes Cormier and seconded by Commissioner Herb Welch to approve Steve Beitler of Funtime Promotions to lease the Raceway facility.
Commissioner Wes Cormier spoke about Beitler, and the impression he has received from him doing the research onto each bidder.
Cormier said that Beitler has shown that he “has the financial backing, the local support, and he is the guy that can bring World of Outlaws back to Grays Harbor County. I also believe that he is the guy that will rebuild the racetrack, as it once was.”
Commissioner Herb Welch spoke on the choice, saying he has “extreme reservations” with this decision and the rush to get it complete. Welch said that, “we’ve made some errors in the past, and we’ve had to rush this one through, in my mind anyway, but it is what it is.”
The Commissioners will begin negotiations on the lease of the facility next week.
