New year, new marijuana licenses

January 3, 2014

As the New Year arrived, more marijuana licenses were announced locally by the Washington State Liquor Control Board.

New companies were added to the official list within the Twin Harbors, and others were removed. 30 licenses in total have applications to produce in Grays Harbor, 36 in Pacific County.

48 companies have applied to process the new industry, with 18 coming from Grays Harbor, and 30 in Pacific. The largest concentration of these sites is situated in Raymond at the Stan Hatfield Industrial Park.

A total of 21 retail locations are on the official list. Aberdeen, Hoquiam, Grayland, Montesano, Ocean Shores, and Ocean City businesses join with applicants, stretching the possibilities across Grays Harbor. Raymond saw its first retail application in North County added with Peninsula Herbal, the only store located.

Only 6 retail stores will be allowed on The Harbor, with at least 2 stores already saying they will not pursue a license. Only 2 stores are allowed in Pacific County.

According to the Liquor Control Board, more applications will be added as the State filters through a backlog of submissions, and as investigators continue reviewing applicants, many will be removed. Liquor Control Board spokesman Mikhail Carpenter said that the State hopes to begin issuing licenses at the end of February.
