Flu season claims 11 statewide
With its latest update, the Washington Health Department says there have been 11 flu deaths in the state this season.
Spokesman Marqise Allen says the number is not unusual, but the department urges everyone over the age of 6 months to have a vaccination. The swine flu has been the most common strain, and the current vaccine available covers the H1N1 virus.
Grays Harbor Public Health Nursing Director Kimberly Carson says the best defense from the flu is getting a vaccine and that this year’s vaccine should be very effective.
Carson says if you get the Flu it is good to contact your provider because there is medication that can help with the symptoms, and she also said that knowing the symptoms of the Flu can be helpful.
You can get a Flu Vaccine by going to your local pharmacy or provider but not at Grays Harbor Public Health.
There were 54 official flu deaths in the state last season, 18 the season before.
