Herd of elk hit by 3 vehicles on Highway 12

January 14, 2014

A herd of elk blocked Highway 12 last night after being struck by 3 separate vehicles.

Monday night, the large herd of elk was crossing State Route 12 near Keys Road. 2 trucks were driving east and another vehicle was driving west as all 3 struck the elk, killing multiple, and blocking traffic. Westbound lanes were partially blocked and the eastbound lanes were fully blocked for an hour. Traffic was returned to normal just after 11 pm.

A 48 year old Aberdeen man driving a 2000 Dodge Dakota had his truck totaled at the scene, while a 25 year old Aberdeen woman and a 29 year old Fort Monroe, VA woman both had their vehicles towed from the scene.

There were no injuries to the drivers.
