Hoquiam City Council swears in new members

The Hoquiam City Council swore in new council members at last night’s meeting and they elected their council president for the New Year.

Richard Pennant was sworn in to a Ward 2 seat and Denise Anderson was sworn in to a Ward 5 seat, as well as other council members who were previously serving but had won their elections this year.

Mayor Jack Durney said that being a Council person is a calling to serve.

Later in the meeting Jasmine Dickoff was nominated to be council president, and she was elected unanimously. According to Mayor Durney she is the first female council president since Pat Oleachea(OLE-UH-SHAY). Phyllis Shrauger was also council president, she then went on to become Hoquiam’s first and only female Mayor.
