Accident on Highway 12 leads to another accident
An accident on Highway 12 near Devonshire blocked traffic for hours on Monday, and led to another accident in the backup.
Just after 3 pm yesterday, a 19 year old Montesano woman was driving east on 12 when she lost control of her 2005 Chevrolet Blazer. As she spun out of control, the vehicle went through a cable barrier and came to rest in the median. An 18 year old Montesano woman inside and a 3 year old were not injured. The driver was charged with going too fast for the conditions and the vehicle was totaled.
Following the accident, traffic was backed up on 12 as they cleared the wreckage. Just before 4 pm, a 62 year old Montesano woman and a 43 year old truckdriver were both driving east as they approached the backup.
As the semi and trailer began to slow, the 62 year old woman went to pass the semi when she saw the traffic and hit her brakes. She lost control of her 1992 Mazda MX3 and slid underneath the trailer, smashing her window and becoming stuck and totaling the car. She was transported to Grays Harbor Community Hospital in what Washington State Patrol Trooper Russ Winger called non-life threatening injuries. She was also charged with driving too fast for the conditions.
The road was blocked for over an hour following the accident.
